Cardboard Craft

“The opportunity to create a small world between two pieces of cardboard, where time exists yet stands still, where people talk and I tell them what to say, is exciting and rewarding.”

— Chris Van Allsburg

I gathered lots of cardboards during black Friday online shopping, I decided to use cardboards and color papers to capture moments of life.

Squishy

I planed to cook an egg for my lunch, however, I accendently dropped it on the ground.

I used cardboard and color paper to make the shape of the yolk, egg white and egg shell. For the squishy egg part, I used hot glue to create the squishy feeling. I also included the 2 paper straws as chopsticks. I tried to use chopsticks to pick up the broken egg 🤣

Revolting

I spent past 9 years in Singapore, the country that has “all year round summer”. I hate flies flying around me with those buzzing sounds in hot summer. Therefore I choose flies for “Revolting”

I used paper to make 2 flies origamis and colored them to look like flies. Then I made paper straw to mimic the flying. The sound and appearance of flies make me revolting.

I combine the broken egg and flies together and make a stop motion video.

Satisfying

The satisfying moment to me is when I finished all my “to do list”, I can lay in bed and play my mobile phone. Besides, I have 2 cups of Boba Milk Tea on my desk. Having my favorite drinks x 2 makes me happy and satisfying. Because, I don’t need to worry about finishing my Boba fast (and not enough), I still have another cup of Boba!

I used cardboard and color papers to create the comfortable and satisfying set and atmosphere.

I also made a stop motion video using this set to record a Self - Quarantine Day 1.

Swollen

I enjoyed watching popcorn jumping out of popcorn machine, It’s like a magic show that turned popcorn kernels to popcorn!

I folded paper to make popcorn box and decorated it with color.  I used cardboard and color paper to make popcorn machine and popcorn. I also included paper straw as a handle for popcorn machine. For popcorn, I choose the yellow color paper and fold them to create the “pop” feeling.

Kernels are exploding and inflated popcorn almost overflow from the popcorn machine!

I made a stop motion video of Pop Pop Popcorn!

During the California “Shelter in Place”, I started to cook food for myself. Here is how to cook Spaghetti!
